How to Kill Stink Bugs Without Touching Themthumbnail Stink bugs have a body shaped like a shield.
Stink bugs (Halyomorpha halys), also known as shield bugs and chust bugs, came from Asia but they weren’t found in America until the 1990s. It is suspected that they were here years before they were discovered in Pennsylvania in 1998. Stink bugs are aptly named from the odor they emit when squashed. This odor is potent enough to get into your clothes and skin. If you do not want to touch the stink bugs, there are other ways to get rid of them besides by finding yourself tainted by their bad odor.
To Kill Stink Bugs Without Touching Them You’ll Need:
- Vacuum with a hose
- Spray bottle
- Liquid dish soap
To Kill Stink Bugs Without Touching Them Instructions:
- Vacuum them up with the suction hose. The suction will remove them and they will go into the container of your vacuum.
- Empty the vacuum canister into the garbage bag immediately and tie the bag firmly closed. Leave the bag outside for the trash carrier to take away. If the stink bugs are left in your vacuum, the scent of the bugs will remain in your vacuum for weeks.
- Find a small spray bottle. A one quart size works well for this.
- Fill the spray bottle with water but leave at least 1.5 inches of head room between the water and the rim of the spray bottle.
- Pour in 2 tablespoons liquid dish soap. You can add more dish soap if desired. The mixture can be equal proportions of water and dish soap.
- Screw on the sprayer nozzle making sure it is tightly on the bottle.
- Shake the bottle about five times to combine the dish soap and water together.
- Aim the sprayer nozzle at the stink bug and spray the bug about three or four times. It takes about two to three minutes before the stink bugs die.
- Vacuum the dead stink bugs away as you did in steps 1 and 2.
