When applying dots to acrylic nails, paint them before attaching the nails to your fingers. If you try applying them when the nails are attached, you run the risk of moving your hand and smearing the polish. To make perfect dots, use a manicurist’s “dotting tool,” which looks like a pen with a nib on each end that contains a small ball. Dotting tools come in different diameters, enabling you to make dots in different sizes.

- Acrylic nails
- Nail polish
- Dotting tool

- Spread the acrylic nails out on a flat surface.
- Shake the bottle of nail polish that you are using to make the dots. Remove the cap.

- Tap the dotting tool lightly on the edge of the bottle to knock off excess polish.
- Press the end of the dotting tool gently against the acrylic nail, and then remove it.
- Allow the dot to dry completely before applying the next one. This way, if you smear a dot and need to remove the wet polish, you won’t wipe the other dots off the nail.
- Repeat steps 3 through 6 until you have applied the desired amount of dots to each acrylic nail.
